  CollECTeR LatAm 2005
3 - 5 October 2005
Talca, Chile
.......................................................................................................................................................................................

The University of Talca is about 250km south of Santiago. For those who will be arriving by air, the easiest way to get to Talca is to take the train or the bus from Santiago. It's about 3 hours by bus, a bit faster by train. The bus service is much more frequent; busses leave just about every 10 minutes from Santiago, whereas trains are about every 2 hours. The tickets for Talca will cost about 5USD on the bus and 7USD on the train.

To go from the airport to the bus or train station in downtown Santiago, you have a few options. You can take a cab which might cost 20USD, you can take a van for about 10USD, or you can take the special bus for about 3USD. Both the municipal bus and the Tur-Bus lines will drop you off at the door of the train station; the Tur-Bus line of busses takes you right into the bus station.

As you leave customs in the airport, you can expect to be just about attacked by all transportation salesmen. Don't worry, they don't bite, just say, "Gracias, no" if you have your own plan, or "Bueno..." if you're happy to go along. There are many booths lining the walls (even before customs) where you can purchase tickets to get downtown. You might be more comfortable purchasing the ticket from the booths to ensure you're getting the right price.
