The official taxi fare from the airport to hotels in the central area of Santiago is about $us15, and to the eastern suburb of Las Condes is $us20. Service in a shared van (minimum 3 passengers) $us6 per person. Bus service from the airport to the center (not direct to a hotel) is aproximately $us2. On exiting from customs in the airport arriving passengers will be greeted with a multitude of van and taxi drivers offering transportation services. These fares might be slightly less than the official rates, but one can obtain the official (registered) service at booths located nearby.
The Metro (subway) covers the central area and costs about $us0.50 depending on the hour. One can purchase a ticket at booths in the subway, just present a $ch1000 bill, or $ch500 coin to the attendant and say 'uno'.
